We drive a car that runs on used vegetable oil and we built a straw bale house... we thought this might be a fun way to document our adventures and maybe, in turn, help others who decide to give it a go as well.

You could use that as a "dump" to improve flow around the turbine. I see that you had made a block off plate for it, which is how it would have been stock, but many people incorporate that hole into a custom exhaust. When the wastegate opens the exhaust gets sent through that valve (Im sure you know that) and it will change the flow dynamics of the exhaust, if you separate it out and send it through a second piece of the down pipe that meets up downstream a ways (maybe just a few inches) form the standard down pipe you will see better flow and an increase in performance. You will be able to hold peak boost better as the exhaust will not be fighting or swirling in the cramped chamber just after the turbine.
