We drive a car that runs on used vegetable oil and we built a straw bale house... we thought this might be a fun way to document our adventures and maybe, in turn, help others who decide to give it a go as well. Note: If you are interested in reading about the building of our straw bale house check out the blog archive (on the right side a little ways down) from 2008- when we began our research and 2009- when we actually constructed the house.

The door that Russ made!
The the dark wood is reclaimed mahogany that a friend gave us.
The lighter wood is hemlock from the store.
The hinges are reclaimed from an old industrial refrigerator.
The door weighs about a million pounds and is about 5" thick.
We have yet to figure out and door knob and lock for that thickness.
Any ideas?

Exterior Final Color
It's not the dry yet- so we have yet to see the actual color.
Hopefully it is a good surprise!
We did this side wall in the dark until 11 o'clock at night with work lights.
It turned out surprisingly well.
